hi i have bought the canopus ADVC-55 product, but when i capture vhs footage the colour comes out slightly darker than the orginal footage :(

i am capturing in pal format
via a AV wire. (red, yellow, white wire)

Where are you watching the captured video? In the preview window of your capturing software? If so, you may need to adjust the "overlay" window brightness of your display card settings (if you're using Windows XP, go to Control Panel, Display, Settings, Advanced and look for Overlay settings). Quite commonly you will need to adjust the overlay brightness up by a few percent.

If you haven't yet done so, burn some of the captured video to a DVD and watch it on your TV. That is the real test to see if the captured brightness is okay.

Hi, yes it was after i burnt the footage to dvd and viewed it on the tv that is when i noticed the darkness,

1. What are you using to compress the video to MPEG-2 for DVD authoring?

2. What is the quality of the analog source?

3. What is the quality (and length) of the RCA cable being used to connect up your devices?

the footage i am capturing is on vhs its a dance performance the qualtiy itself is excellent.

The VCR i am capturing it through is SHARP
6 heads


Canopus ADVC-55

i am capturing through the Canopus ADVC-55 through pinnacle Liquid edition 6.10 editing suite.

the RCA wires im using are 3x

Well, you could adjust the brightness in Liquid, but this would cause it to do a lot more work rendering your video and it shouldn't really be necessary.

Many TVs can have different settings for each input, I'm wondering if your TV has different settings for VCR and DVD inputs? Are you able to play the DVD on a friend's DVD player and TV to compare?

yeah i have a tv and a dvd together in two different rooms, the original video looked like it had more hue and the captured one looked too saturated.
