Hi
I usually encode from Uncompressed 8 bit PAL (upper field, as per Blackmagic codec) or DVCam PAL (lower field).
I usually start from preset CD/DVD >> MPEG2-DVD-NTSC (Mastering Quality) and modify the parameters according to my needs.
But I usually go with VBR 2-pass, upper-field.
I leave Closed GOP UNCHECKED (that would mean that the GOP is open, right?).
Maximum GOP size is at 15 (and I always transcode to NTSC)
GOP structure is at 3 frames (but I’ve also tried with Automatic, to no avail)
Picture Structure is set at Automatic (Frame gives the same results)
Enable Scene detection is checked (since Procoder 3)
Intra DC precision is at 10
Drop-frame timecode is checked.
I leave Use Strict GOP bitrate control or Create DVD compliant stream unchecked.
Well, the encodes always end up with a Closed GOP (size 15), there's no I-frames on scene changes (tought I have Scene Detection checked) and my streams' timecode is ALWAYS non-drop frame, which means an extra step restreaming the m2v either with MPEGAppend or ReStream.
I tested the streams with different tools (authoring programs, stream analyzers) and my findings are correct.
Hope this helps
