Wrong Aspect Ratio importing clips

We got an JVC gy hd 201 with DR-HD100 hard drive.
We record in avi type2.
720*576 pal 16:9.
But when we import the clips from the harddrive edius 4.51 by default import them as 4:3 clips.
The clips for sure looks wrong and we have to change them manual to 16:9.
How do we get Edius to load them as 16:9 by default?

this simply means that Edius does not understand the 16:9 flag set by your camera, or that the camera does not set a flag, remember that a 16:9 recording is actually 4:3 but with rectangular pixel display, providing there is a flag that tells Edius to display in 16:9

when the flag is missing, you need to set it manually after capture

most real time DVD recorders and DVD cameras also fail to set a 16:9 flag

even Edius Mpeg Capture utility fails to set a 16:9 flag

I would say another 10 years and all the 4:3 stuff should be extinct

But can you set the default aspect ratio in edius to 16:9?
I mean when you got about 100 clip on the hard drive and have to manual change them one by one it for sure cost money...
Or is there a way to select them all and change the aspect?

unfortunately not

I have the same problem with a customer who shoots with SonyZ1 and captures with some Pinnacle software, then sends me the clips on a USB2 hard disk

I have to set them all to 16:9 one at a time, even though they play 16:9 in windows media player

Its 2007 and it should be a very easy fix i guess...

Quicktime files captured on Blackmagic cards do the same thing. I'm surprised you can't select multiple clips in Edius and make all of them 16:9.

Now, because I am a PC nerd from way back, I get around the problem using a keyboard macro program which automates converting 20 clips with one button press.

If you are up for trying this, download autohotkey from:
http://www.autohotkey.com/

Then put all your clips into one bin. Click the first clip in a bin as icon view, and run a hot key program which contains (looped):

ALT+Enter (to open properties dialogue box)
Right Arrow (to select video tab)
ALT + S (for aspect ratio)
Down Arrow (to select 16:9)
Enter (to confirm settings)
Right Arrow (to select next clip)

You can also use this trick for changing field order. It may seem a little technical at first, but a keyboard macro program is awesome for all sorts of things. And not that hard to write a program for - just flick though the documentation first.

Not as ideal as a "force 16:9" option on import, but it works...

Its so frustrating!
My Premiere CS3 have no problem to get it right!
Did even try to record with Canopus codec set on my Cam HD.
But same problem EDIUS import them as 4:3.
Doesnt canopus codec set the ratio flag?
