Hello,

1) I plan to convert some old analog tapes (VHS, Hi8) and I am looking for the best quality/price product. (I don't need DV->analog for example).
I'll do this conversion only once so I target the best quality I can afford.
I just discovered the advc family and therefore, I think it would suit my needs.
But, I don't really know which product is sufficient.
I noticed that ADVC300 has some settings for conversion and LTBC (even if I don't really know what LTBC will enhance).
So, is it enough to go with a ADVC55 or shall I look for a ADVC300?
Can you help me find the appropriate product for my conversion project?

2) I know Canopus only by name, can you tell me what are the advantages of ADVC products i.e. advc55 compared to Hauppage/Pinnacle/Terrarec products which are in the same price category?

3) I've seen that some professionals propose to convert analog tapes (VHS for example) to HD videos.
Do you think that the conversion is possible directly in HD or does it mean that they only upscale the converted DV videos to HDV ?

Thanks for your support,

Ouais

Hello, I am trying to determine which product would work for me. I am running a 2 x 3.2 GHz Quad-core Intel Mac Pro, OS 10.6.4 with 16 GBs of memory. I already own the ADVC-55 but it doesn't seem to be able to do what I would like it to. I need something to spit out my quicktime files that I play within my Digital Audio Workstation onto an external tv monitor. I work with audio to picture and I want the picture off of my computer screen. Will the ADVC-110 do that? I need something quick and easy to work with. Thanks.

Hi,

I just purchased a second ADVD-55 for a project where I need two live video signals at the same time (processed with/through Modul8 2.6). I have a powered 3 port fire wire hub, but as soon as I connect the second unit, the first stops to work and the second doesn't work either. The ADVD's light green, so they seem to be powered ok. In the input list "ADVD-55" appears two times and I can choose between them, but none of them work. Does anybody have an idea what the problem might be and how to solve it???

Thanks!

ADVC-HD50 and Producer Pro Problem

I am trying to integrate a professional video camera with a DVI output to Ustream Producer Pro via the added cost HDV plug-in. To capture the camera's feed to my CPU, I am using the Grass Valley ADVC-HD50 (recommended by Grass Valley tech support) for this application. The DVI output of the high resolution camera is connected to the GV box via HDMI. The camera's native resolution is 720P which is a resolution that the GV box supports. A blinking green status light is showing on the Grass Valley box. This indicates that the box has a good match with the source and is outputting a 1280X720 stream. I am able to see the output of the camera in my NLE software, Sony Vegas Pro. Although, I do have to go to the capture settings and activate play or record for the AV/C driver the Windows loads to support the GV capture device. The computer is a new Dell with Windows 7, 4MB RAM, a high quality Core i3 processor, a high end ATI video card, and a firewire 1394 card (for the ADVC-HD50 capture device).

When I launch Producer Pro (with HDV) and configure HDV camera shot for the Microsoft AV/C media (the GV capture device), I have no camera image (blue screen only). Under the media drop down menu, there is a selection called configure devices. If I click on the Microsoft AV/C device selection, a window opens with tape transport controls (much like the controls in the Sony NLE software). However, the play and record buttons do nothing. The media device is properly configured (within Producer Pro) for HDV 720P.

I have invested a lot of money in this CPU, the GV box, and the Producer Pro software with HDV. I need to make this work. I was told that it would work.

Does anyone have experience with integrating Grass Valley HDV to Producer Pro?
