Default BOOSTER is incredible.

That's my take after comparing my i7 with and without BOOSTER.

Without Booster AVCHD files - Buffered realtime last only 15 seconds on one track (no filters)

WITH BOOSTER and AVCHD files - All day - Three tracks, 2 with PIP, Background track with Monotone filter, One other track with old movie filter + 3D transitions on two layers simultaneously + 3 title tracks.

BLOODY AMAZING especially when you consider I ran this test with the video on my C drive... and only set to 32 frame buffer!!!!

Configuration. Core i7 2,67 overclocked at 3.33 GHZ, 6GB 1600Mhz Corsair Dominator GT, Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

Yeah. Not bad for a number 2 driver!

just installed this into windows 7 pro x64 at home pretty impressed with the performance curious as if the booster is outputting full rez frames or acting like premiere cs4 and downrezing the output window. I guess I'll upvert to 1080 as an hq avi and compare on the output monitor. also when will this be on sale as I had to uninstall neo 2 to install the booster now showing neo as version 2.5 It's worth $50 for the performance boost

running this on an old intel q6600 with 4 gb of ram and 2Tb Raid, the system drive in this test system is an IDE drive so I guess I should move the temp directories over to the raid array, (testing windows 7 and dual booting 7 and xp, I'm pretty sold getting ready to move everything over to Windows 7 x64 pro as the performance boost is unreal, this old box feels like one of my I7 machines with 12gb of ram)

EDIUS' philosophy is to always edit in the native format, in full resolution, full frame size. Same goes for EDIUS Neo 2 Booster.

This new AVCHD codec is amazing, and I'm not just paid to say that. I dropped a copy of it on one of our HP z800 dual-quad core Nahalem demo systems late last week and tried to choke it, and I couldn't. My clips were similar in nature to Mark's, though I think I can one-up him on a few things...

I was feeding it 1440x1080i AVCHD clips from a Panasonic AVCHD camera; these went into a 1920x1080i project setting, where I put up to 5 layers, all with some kind of filter or effect (some with multiple!), 3 of the 5 layers were 2D PinP via the Layout tool, plus transitions for everything. I didn't touch the buffer settings--I installed and went straight to it as if it were fresh out of the box.

No stopping, but an ever-so-slight stuttering on the PinP stuff. The clips were "red lined" in a few places, but for the most part, it was crazy smooth.

And the kicker--I hadn't moved the clips off the camera yet! I was still editing in place from the SD card in the camera! When I moved the clips to the C drive, the stuttering went away. I haven't moved them to the RAID to see if there are any further improvements (doubtful--this is more of a processor-intensive job).

Obviously, the average user won't have a powerhouse machine like this, but it gives you an idea of what is possible. :D

I totally believe you, with a system like that. I should have mentioned though, my clips are 1920x1080 AVCHD in a full HD project. :)
Regardless, the term BOOSTER is a complete understatement. It's magic.

Incredible doesn't come close to describing this, thanks for the full rez clarification I've presently stacked 4 clips in a 1080 project each with video filters and playing perfectly smooth and to second Rando's quote please bring this over to edius 5! hard to believe I'm getting this performance out of a 1st generation intel quad core processor.

I could do 8+ stacked with filters but it's of no importance to quote really unless you are using a keyer of some sort on them. So my 3 layers max were with PIP. I could do 4 that lasted about 40 seconds.

I agree I'd probably never use 4 clips stacked up like this but wanted to see if it would choke my old processor. I'm thinking that neo 2 with the booster would be perfect for a laptop for people who do things like same-day edit stuff in the wedding biz or rough cutting a corporate project for project approval etc etc. don't know how the booster would perform on a dual core but there are some quad laptops coming out soon if not on the market already with the I5 processors...

Mark,
I'm sure that NEO is a test bed for this product. It does sound pretty tasty especially if you are using that codec. If it comes to fruition, I believe it may be refined by the time that it makes it into a version of Edius.... and possibly have a little more 'umph' than what you guys are reporting. Afterall, an extra 6 months of testing and code rewrites sure can't hurt.

We can only speculate but I'm sure it will be in soon enough. It's probably going to be an option for EDIUS 5.whatever and then included free in V6.
