Default ADVC-55 firewall

I have an iMac with IEEE 1394B 9 pin connection. The ADVC-55 has a 6 pin connection out. Is there a converter 6 to 9 pin available and does it have to be powered?

There are b to a converter cables, they are pretty hard to find, and yes they do carry power.

Most s800 cards are combo cards with also s400 ports on it, doesn't your mac has a second 6 pin port ?
You might be better of buying a new 1394a card with TI chipset for your mac, might be cheaper than a cable, and it works without flaws.
Connecting the avc to a s800 port might be asking for trouble, search the forum and find out how picky they are, even without this extra challenge you want to venture in.

To have a more stable operation of your avc converter it is advisable to use an external power adaptor.

There is a Belkin 9-pin FireWire 800 to 6-pin FireWire 400 adapter cable sold in nearly all Apple stores that bridges this gap. Though not an officially supported method, this has been unofficially tested by several people (myself included) and it not only provides connectivity but supplies power as well. The cable will run between $20 and $40, depending on the store.

My bet a new card will cost the same, and is supported :)
