Default From edius to the web.. How to limit file sizes..

Is there any way in Edius that you can create a video file limited to a certain size?

So far what I have been doing is creating my HDV edited videos in edius, then importing them into movie maker and saving as 20meg clips for the internet.. I think that is why a couple (not all) of random videos are having interlacing issues..

however there seems to be no way in Edius to actually select the file size you want to create.

What if you wanted to limit the video to be a compressed 10 meg for your portable blackberry!

???

unfortunately, Edius is primitive in this department and I don't use it for any such export, I simply export to Canopus HQ fine

this is why you should have a tool every editor should have, T4 Xpress

add the HQ file, simply adjust bitrate until you see your desired file size

Look for "Limit Data Rate" in the final output dialog boxes. Quicktime, WMV both do it, but are less obvious than they should be.

As an example, Vimeo HD should be 5000kb/s, SD should be 1500kb/s.
I'd make some tests in the 600-1000kb/s rang to see if they play adequately on mobile.

I don't think limiting the datarate will show you the file size unless you get calculator, pen and paper, or T4 Xpress

Yes, but once you hit that "sweet spot" export straight out of E5 is a pleasure.
A built-in data rate calculator would be great!

but wmv export from Edius is soft and looks out of focus

wmv export from T4 is razor sharp, how do you beat that?

Use this bitrate calculator:

http://dvd-hq.info/bitrate_calculator.php

It doesn't matter whether the code is MPEG2 or something else -- the file size is determined by bitrate times duration.
