Default Current Graphic Cards - Can they do 3D PiP in realtime ?

Hi,
I'm thinking about upgrading my GraCa.
As the 3D PiP is rendered on the GPU, I hope there's a chance for realtime playback.
Anyone here using a ATI 4890 or 5870 with 1gb DDR5 ( or similar NVIDIA ) ?
Does the improved memory bandwidth help, or is the bottleneck somewhere else ??
Is realtime 3D PiP possible at all ?

Thanks, Jan

3D PinP does not use the GPU at all. It uses the CPU.

Only GPUFX (Transitions only) use the graphics card in EDIUS 5

Thanks, Dave.
Looks like I misinterpreted something I read, here ...

OK ... did some more investigating ...
The 3D PiP realtime performance is somewhat 'broken' in V 5.x.

I started with Edius V.5
Is there a way, to get the complete V.4 installer ?
And even more important :
Can V.4 3D PiP do 'rotate' ??

bye, Jan

Default 3D PIP

When you say 'its broken' what exactly are you seeing?

I am using 5.12 and although it does work slightly differently to the one in Ver5, it does not seem to be 'broken'.
I use it nearly everyday moving graphics and titles around the screen, keyframing their position etc.. and all in realtime.

I am realtime with 3DPIP. "Broken" just means that in this version it makes a much bigger hit on the CPU than past versions did.

Yep, that's what I meant.
And that bigger hit seems to be even bigger than grass valley expected ( according to a forum mod ).
But obviously it couldn't be improved, in 5.1.x.

Does anyone know, if 'rotate' was already in V.4.6 ??
If yes, I'll try to get a V.4 disk or download.
I do have V.4 registered in my account, so it should be possible ...
Next bigger system upgrade is a bit ahead.
( my main business is audio and my current system is rock solid and has more than enough power, for audio tasks )

bye, Jan

Thanks, David & Eric.
Can You do multiple layers of 3D PiP in RT ?
I read that in V.4, it was possible to have 3 layers of 3D PiP,
even on those older systems.

Actually I won't need more than 1 3D PiP FX, but sometimes 2 or 3 region FX in addition to the PiP.
AFAIK, 'region' is another FX needing much more resources in V.5 ...
