Default Real time playback

Hi, can please someone elaborate on the correct program behaviour
regarding the colored status line on the timeline?
eg when blue - realtime, yellow - maybe realtime, red - needs render.
Why even the dv footage captured on NX shows as yellow by default?
When I hit play the line changes to blue(aqua) is it supposed to?
Another thing - all vitascene effects are much slower than other effects.
It is noticable even in DV. CPU running very low though.
When using film looks effect with the supplied artbeats HD footage playback
slutters - is it correct?
Specs - dual 5540 xeons 12gb ram 4x1tb raid0 win7 64bit NX&Spark

Yes, thank you for informative answer, Storm Dave. I've read the reference manual and I know what the bars mean. What is not written in the manual
is what can I expect from Edius on my hardware configuration.
As I said before vitascene is not using the resources availiable and so, is
heavy. It also makes exports longer so for instance when exporting to wmv
it takes more than twice the time to export the same clip if film look filter is applied.
Again, is it normal that I can't get realtime with ARTBEATS HD photojpeg compressed footage (from the bonus dvd that comes with edius) if film look
or some other of that sort of filters is applied?
System specs are in the first thread.

for maximum realtime performace, the clip resolution and frame rate and p or i must match the project setting

example, if clip is 1440x1080 50i then the project setting should be 1440x1080 50i
